Jump-Starting Virtual Production In Spain with Netflix
ROE Visual collaborates with Netflix for the Post Production Summit
Leek, The Netherlands (10 November 2022) – Netflix hosted a series of exclusive workshops and events around virtual production technology during the Post Production Summit in Spain. ROE Visual proudly collaborated with Netflix for this event, which took place at the Netflix production center in Madrid Content City (Tres Cantos). Involved as a technology partner, ROE Visual provided a Black Pearl BP2V2 LED screen.
Hosting exclusive workshops and events, Netflix designed the Post Production Summit to raise awareness of virtual production techniques. The goal was to deepen the knowledge of cutting-edge technologies increasingly implemented in our industry, thereby consolidating the company's best practices in post-production and visual effects workflows. Netflix asked the ROE Visual team to be part of the ICVFX Summit 2022 in Madrid, supplying a large LED wall for demonstrations and testing.
The supplied LED wall consisted of the acclaimed Black Pearl BP2V2 LED panels. The Led wall measured 14m. wide by 4m. wide and was built in a 3-degree curved set-up. The resulting LED canvas was impeccable and looked impressive. Participating DOPs were very impressed with the amazingly accurate color representation, as demonstrated during the workshops.
Together with industry-leading partners, such as Epic Games, disguise, and ARRI, virtual production techniques were demonstrated, based on existing cases, such as La Casa de Papel, presented by Miguel Angel Amoedo, DOP. During the workshop, Amoedo projected Netflix's blockbuster theme of "Money Heist" on the ROE Visual BP2V2 LED backdrop to experiment with his new lighting concept ideas, an exciting experience.
Closely following and driving developments in virtual production, ROE Visual and forenamed partners are recognized as the go-to industry resource for virtual production solutions. Engaging with the participating film- and tv producers, colorists, and DOPs was educative both ways. Creating a profound understanding of the requirements and needs of the users will enable ROE Visual to improve its product range and offered solutions.
"Being able to spend time with our industry partners and a broad audience of industry specialists is very energizing. There is still so much to be learned on this topic, both for the specialists that want to adapt virtual production into their workflows or projects and for the technology suppliers. We're all committed to striving to improve our products and solutions continuously. Relating personally with the actual users is paramount in this process. Our thanks go to Viktor Marti Farres, Director Post Production – Spain & Portugal at Netflix, and his team for organizing this event, "comments Olaf Sperwer for ROE Visual.
