ROE Visual Supports Groundbreaking ViV System
Ushering in a New Era of Motion-Controlled Virtual Production
Leek, The Netherlands (25 June 2025) - ROE Visual proudly announces its integral role in the development of ViV (Vectored Imaging Volume), an innovation from Dimension Studio that redefines what's possible in virtual production. ViV utilizes robotic motion control, which was combined with ROE Visual's high-resolution LED panels for Dimension's proof of concept films, to offer unprecedented freedom of movement, flexibility, and image quality on set.
At its core, ViV features two industrial-grade robotic arms: one equipped with a cinema-grade camera, the other with a compact LED wall which can be built using ROE Visual's powerful high fidelity panel technology. These arms move in perfect synchrony with each other and with the digital environment in real time, allowing for truly immersive, kinetic shots that are typically restricted in static volume configurations. With a footprint starting at just 2x3 meters, the system is designed for speed, accessibility, and scalability, allowing for a quick and efficient on-set deployment, including setup, motion edits, and changes in just 40 minutes.
This innovative approach from Dimension Studio and robotics partner Dickon Mitchell breaks through the spatial and creative limitations of traditional fixed LED volumes. Filmmakers can now capture more dynamic camera movement in virtual production, such as performers moving through changing environments over greater distances, navigating tight corners, or executing extreme tilts and pans — all while maintaining consistent lighting and virtual parallax. By using ROE Visual's high-resolution LED panels, ViV also demonstrated outstanding image fidelity, enabling close-range shots and capturing fine details that exceed the limitations of green screens or lower-resolution setups.
"At ROE Visual, we see ViV as a powerful demonstration of how motion-controlled LED environments can unlock an entirely new level of storytelling," said Olaf Sperwer, Business Development Director for Virtual Production at ROE Visual. "This technology can put our high-resolution LED panels to work in a compact, efficient, and cost-effective way. It's an exciting step forward for creators."
ViV offers a compelling solution for large-scale projects requiring virtual production. The system can operate as a standalone setup or as a complementary solution to larger volumes, offering directors and cinematographers a powerful tool for specific sequences that require intricate camera movement.
Focusing the compute power into a small area of wall, Dimension's ViV enables the use of ultra-high-resolution LED panels running at increased framerates, delivering image clarity that would be much harder and costly to achieve in a full static volume setup. ROE Visual's panels — renowned for their exceptional color accuracy, refresh rate, and engineering durability — have proved they can produce close-up, high-fidelity shots as part of the ViV solution.
Dimension Studio has demonstrated ViV's capabilities through two launch films, "The Climb" and "The Office," which showcase complex camera choreography, immersive storytelling, and seamless integration of physical and digital worlds — all captured in-camera using ROE Visual panels.
"Filmmakers have embraced the benefits of LED volumes, but the static nature of the setup still limited many creative shots," said Callum Macmillan, CTO and Co-Founder of Dimension Studio. "ViV changes that. We were thrilled to be able to partner with ROE Visual on our proof of concept for the solution. And with its LED technology and our robotics, we demonstrated a mobile, motion-capable volume that delivers precision, flexibility, and visual integrity — all without the need for massive infrastructure. ROE Visual's LED panels were the perfect choice to make this happen, their image quality, color fidelity, and performance really did deliver the highest-quality in-camera visuals."
ViV also represents a significant step in democratizing virtual production. Its modular, scalable design makes it ideal for everything from feature films to brand content and music videos, especially for teams that want to leverage VP's advantages without investing in a full-scale stage. As a result, ViV opens up high-end virtual production to a broader creative community — enabling stunning results at a faster pace and lower cost.
"We're only beginning to explore what's possible," added Macmillan. "Motion-controlled VP is the next frontier, and with ROE Visual on board, we're building that future today. This isn't just an R&D experiment — it's a production-ready system that filmmakers can adopt today," added Sperwer. "We're proud to support Dimension in pushing the boundaries of what's possible. ViV truly exemplifies the next evolution of virtual production."
ROE Visual remains at the forefront of LED-based innovation for film, broadcast, and live events, collaborating with visionary partners like Dimension Studio to drive the future of creative storytelling.
