ROE Visual powers VP Village at Cannes 2026
Bringing Virtual Production Workflows to Life
The VP Village, powered by ROE Visual, was designed as a working virtual production environment in Cannes, not a traditional technology showcase. Its purpose was to inspire filmmakers and lower the barriers to using virtual production by showing how the complete VP ecosystem works in practice. Through hands-on workshops, technical demonstrations, and panel sessions, visitors experienced how LED display technology, camera tracking, real-time rendering, motion capture, media playback, lighting, and LED processing come together in production-ready workflows.

Throughout the week, attendees explored real-world applications of virtual production for film, broadcast, streaming content, and commercial production. Sessions focused on key industry questions: how can LED volume technology support creative storytelling? How do filmmakers achieve colour accuracy, natural skin tones, and repeatable lighting conditions inside a volume? How can studios build efficient virtual production stages that support both creative freedom and operational reliability?
ROE Visual’s camera-ready LED solutions, including the Ruby platform, formed the visual backbone of the VP Village. The setup demonstrated how reliable LED technology supports high-performance virtual production environments where directors, DoPs, VP supervisors, and technical teams can work with confidence.
The Cannes programme featured a diverse range of sessions and case studies from leading creatives, studios, and technology experts. Topics included cinematography inside the volume, colour management for virtual production, LED volume workflow design, sustainable production models, real-time content pipelines, and practical approaches to building virtual production stages that support storytelling rather than complicate it.

An activation of this scale was only possible through close collaboration with a strong virtual production ecosystem. These technology partners helped bring the VP Village to life: Megapixel, Chaos, Stype, RED Digital Cinema, OMNIO, Antilatent, FBR Europe, and K5 Lux AI.
Special thanks also go to the many speakers, panellists, studios, and creative professionals who shared their expertise, case studies, and real-world production experiences throughout the week. Their contributions helped create a vibrant programme that connected technical knowledge with creative ambition.

“Cannes demonstrated that virtual production is no longer viewed as experimental technology, but as a valuable filmmaking tool for real productions,” says Olaf Sperwer, Director Virtual Production/XR/Broadcast EMEA at ROE Visual. “What made the VP Village special was the willingness of the community to openly share knowledge, workflows, and creative experiences. By bringing the full ecosystem together in one place, we were able to show how virtual production can support storytelling in a practical, accessible, and reliable way.”

The ROE Visual team on the ground, including Olaf Sperwer, Steven Embregts, and Marina Prak, looks back on an energising and successful edition of Cannes, filled with inspiring conversations, new connections, and a shared passion for the future of visual storytelling.

As virtual production continues to evolve across film, broadcast, streaming, and commercial content creation, ROE Visual remains committed to supporting studios, filmmakers, and partners with reliable, camera-ready LED solutions and the expertise required to build future-ready production environments.
